China Dining Room Furniture in China China's exports of dining room furniture are rising steadily. Suppliers are focusing on up-scale models that bring in higher profits. Space conservation and minimalism are new trends and streamlined, modern designs are in high demand. Forworld Ltd., for example, invests in their core designers by sending them to the US and the UK to observe trends, in the high-end segment. Many manufacturers are using top-quality imported wood, steel, paint and other raw materials. Makers are also combining materials, such as wood and marble for tabletops and leather and fabric for seats.

However, the industry grapples with high production costs, the appreciation of the yuan, cuts in tax rebates and a weak US economy. As production costs increase and margins are getting thinner, many marginal manufacturers are being squeezed out in the market. The result is a smaller but more competent supplier base.

Suppliers are taking a number of steps to remain competitive in this volatile environment. Some (e.g. Guangzhou Huiya) are diversifying beyond the USA and Europe, focusing also on emerging markets such as the Middle East, Africa and South America. Others (e.g. Gold Sea Ball) use less expensive substitute raw-materials such as metal or MDF.
