FURNISHINGS DIGEST: 2000, BEDDING DYNAMICS

Order #: F1203_2000TP; US$ 100.00
Published by Mann, Armistead & Epperson, March, 2000; 35 Pages; 35 Exhibits

It would be easy for bedding to become a commodity but, instead, it is one of the most profitable and consistent performers on the retail floor, growing steadily in both dollars and units. It has withstood market share challenges from alternative bedding, the most serious being waterbeds in the 1970's, and continued to prosper.

The author believes that most home furnishing manufacturers dismiss the bedding industry too lightly because bedding does not offer the same magnitude of style and challenges, but bedding does have its own cycles of new products, sizes, warranties, surfaces and colors that give the industry plenty to fine tune, improve, and attract the consumer.

The residential furnishings industry can learn from the bedding sector. A look at the growth, the profit margins, the inventory turns, and retail profitability shows a level of achievement not often accomplished in other sectors.
